Do you still like me?

My son has a girlfriend. By that I mean there was a girl at his school last year whose friends told him he was her boyfriend. She came over for dinner one night and hung out. She had a hot dad who was identically loser-ish to my Babydaddy (which probably explains the idiotic attraction). I heard through the fourth grade grapevine they kissed on the last day of school. Innocently, I hear. This year he changed schools.

He hasn't seen her since May but they talk occasionally on the phone. So she called him tonight and he talked for a few minutes (again, sounding completely disinterested even though he refers to her as his "girlfriend"). So a few minutes later she calls back (sound familiar? it must be gender based...the callback). And she asks him "Do you still like me?" and he goes "Yeah, do you like me?" and she says yes. Then he goes "ok, well, bye" and that's the end of the conversation. It cracked me up.

The most poignant line from Shopgirl is when the guy who inadvertantly is jerking around the main character (as in telling her it's not serious but acting like he loves her)...anyway, he's telling her he slept with someone else and he feels bad and she looks at him and asks, "Why don't you love me?" The question you want to ask but don't want to hear the answer to.
